The intermarriage between the Straits Chinese and Malays created the delicate culture of the Nyonyas (the ladies) and the Babas (the gentlemen). This culture led to the creation of traditional fashion, handcrafts and, of course, a special cuisine. Nyonya cooking is a specialty derived from the recipes of one's grandmother, and sometimes, the influence of one's grandfather. Recipes were passed from one generation to the other with very little variance.
At the restaurant Nyonya, they are fortunate to have inherited such guarded recipes. It is thus their utmost belief that they offer the most authentic Nyonya cuisine possible to the sophisticated palate of their American and Asian diners. At Nyonya, they strive to introduce their customers to many dishes that are a combination of a delicate and close to perfect blend of spices and herbs.
Imported spices complemented by the subtle fragrance of the ginger flower, kaffir leaves and galanga are crucial in the making of authentic Nyonya cuisine. Sauces made from coconut milk, tamarind seeds and curry pastes (freshly pounded with shallots, garlic, lemon grass, ginger and selected curry mix) are a testament to a well-cooked Nyonya meal.
Now they hope to share these special experiences with you…Selamat Makan!
Nyonya Young Tofu—Eggplant, green pepper and tofu stuffed with minced fish, served in a clear fish broth or curry soup
Nyonya Poh Piah—Steamed Malaysian spring roll stuffed with jicama, egg and minced shrimp
Nyonya Seafood Rice Noodle—Stir-fried rice noodles with shrimp, squid, scallop and vegetables with a splash of spicy soy sauce
Nasi Lemak—Coconut rice flavored with cloves and screw-pine leaves; served with chili anchovy, pickle, curry chicken with bone and hard boiled eggs
Nyonya Kari Ayam—Chicken with bone cooked over low heat with lemon grass and chili paste and simmered in thick rich coconut curry
Nyonya House Special Jumbo Prawns—Jumbo prawns cooked with spicy grounded dried shrimp in authentic sauce
They are just grea! Communications are great, nice people, and food is exceptional!!! Highly recommended for both eat-in as well as delivery

This place is a gem, I absolutely love it.

Their food is consistently good although delivery time is on the slow side. It's always a pleasant surprise when they arrive earlier than expected:) love the Hainanese Chicken and chicken broth rice + tofu sizzling platter!! If you're looking for a change of taste from Thai food, nyonya is where it's at!

Everything is generally good quality, and fair priced.

I have ordered from this place a couple of times and it is always good. The first time it was a bit better though. I like the noodle dishes and the flavors and the price is reasonable. I will be ordering again

food is great, service not so......everyone looks so miserable working there....now they're just ruining it for everyone in a good mood.....

Delivery was speedy and food was delicious! Particularly loved the thai style bean curd and hainanese chicken (with chicken broth rice!). My new go-to delivery place in the Financial District.

We have taste-tested many items on Nyonya's menu...a few dishes survives the 10min commute, and the restaurant staff and messenger are very friendly as long as you tip them appropriately, so for us, we like to tip 20%. It's really nice they are willing to deliver as far as Financial District/Wall Street area.

LOVE their homemade roti canai and young chow fried rice (with brown rice), kind of obsessed. Delivery is generally faster than the quoted window. Recommended.

Excellent delivery. The food held up almost as well as if ordering at Nyonya in person. We had the Mango Shrimp Lunch Special, two orders of the Homemade Roti Canai (Indian Pancake), and the Masak Lemak.
Delivery was estimated at 75-90 minutes and it was delivered in 40. While quicker delivery is better than longer closer estimates would help in knowing when to order.
Order from here in person or for delivery early but often.

delicious food, everything was hot when delivered. I will definitely order again

Last time I checked I ordered a hainanese chicken with rice, not chicken broth and two pieces of chicken. Delivery was quick but they really went down the drain.

Do not order from this place via seamless! I didn't get. My food until three hours late. Go eat at the restaurant or get takeout.

Healthy portion for the Hainanese chicken w/ chicken broth rice. Prompt-ish.

love the food - the curried beef is on our favorites list!

They made me waited 1.5 hours for an order of $25 worth of food. I called 3 times, apparently my food was sitting on the kitchen floor the whole time, they never delivered it. Never order from this place AGAIN!

Food is ok but service is terrible and delivery is super slow. This restaurant charge extra 50 cents when I ask for no ice on my drink.

Delicious, on time and generous portions. It's a shame that I moved out of their delivery zone, but it's also good because Malaysian food is not particularly healthy.

Glad they deliver all the way up to Soho. Great food, speedy delivery.0
Be nice and tip more than the minimum, people.

nyonya is consistent, trick with delivery is to order way in advance and set a time fir delivery- they have bern very good and prompt when i order this way. foid is consistently delicious- the garlic chicken, beef rendang, kari ayam, and plain roti are my favorites. i wish they would offer more vegetable dishes. my only complaint --and hence 304 stars out of 5, is that everything is a little bit on the greasy side.

Excellent crab! Everything but chicken was a little dry and salty that's why 4 not 5 stars! I'm ordering again!

I've ordered from here on a few occasions and the food is simply scrumptious! Delivery range can be anywhere from 30-60 minutes, but it is well worth the wait. The Hainanese Chicken is highly recommended along with the flavorful Homemade Roti Canai and refreshing Coconut Pudding to cleanse the palate.

Really good Malaysian food!
Posted 2 years ago by Tina C.
My food arrived quick and still steaming hot. Love their Hainanese chicken and chicken broth rice. However, it's true that their rice portion is always very large and unproportional with the meat if you order meat over rice. If you love rice, that's not gonna be much a problem but I would recommend order meat and rice separately. Great place!

have been going there for years. Although the food can be a little to spicy, generally very good.

Excellent Malaysian -- as close to authentic as it gets in Manhattan. Love the Beef Redang and Tripe Noodles. The peanut pancakes are tasty dessert, but they suffer a bit in transit.

Nyonya's food is good but they are the worst for delivery. Totally unpredictable and they don't seem to care. You should eat at the restaurant or order delivery from elsewhere.
Posted 2 years ago by Morgan E.
Ordered deep-fried striped bass with hot and spicy Thai sauce. The fish arrived--NO salt (note, not little but NONE); nothing spicy or hot about the dipping sauce, just oil; and the fish was a BRANZINO not a striped bass. It just upsets me that they assume that their customers are too stupid to know the difference!

The food is pretty good here, but their lunch specials are a complete rip-off. The lunch specials come with 2x the amount of rice you'll usually receive, and 1/4 the meat. The sweet-and-sour chicken I order was actually sweet-and-sour chicken skin, the battered pieces containing no meat. The shrimp special came with 4 very small shrimp, but nearly 2 bowls worth of rice.
Posted 3 years ago by Darius H.
For some reason now they are trying to charge you for rice by hiding it in the optional choices section. Unacceptable.
Posted 3 years ago by Vincent Y.
The food is SO yummy. I ordered the Hokkien Char Mee, it's a stir fried noodle dish with super thick round egg noodles, thick dark soy sauce, and a bunch of different types of meat and spinach. If you like Pad See Eew, Chow Fun, or Drunken Noodle, you'd probably like this dish. My friend ordered the Mango Chicken, which looked pretty delicious too.

Have ordered twice from Nyonya and both times the food took 50% longer than they estimated (an hour and a half vs 45-60 min) and arrived completely cold. I won't be ordering from here again unless the restaurant makes good!

Simply tasty good Malaysian food.

ordered at 7:20 p.m, called manager at 8:30 p.m. and they said it went out the door "15 minutes ago and be there soon," currently 9:00 p.m. and still no delivery? called manager back and he blames it on new delivery guy not knowing his way around the city yet -- is wall street that hard to find? guys get your act together.

I have a huge problem with the freshness of some of their food - particularly the curry based dishes, which always seem to be a little off. Usually the food arrives lukewarm and the sambal shrimp and beef rendang aren't fresh. Prices are also a bit overinflated. The Hainan chicken rice had very little chicken, but the rice was good - albeit not the best I've had. I would order again though since this is the only Malaysian restaurant that delivers around my area. Really, the Hainan chicken rice is the only dish I've had that is of an acceptable quality.
Posted 3 years ago by Jessica C.
Took an hour and a half for my food to get to me which is really quite unacceptable.
Posted 3 years ago by Shirley L.
Ordered from here looking forward to roti kanai and it never showed...correction a cold hard piece of tissue with some decent curry and burnt pineapple fried rice showed up an hour and half later. Though I must say the people over the phone were very nice and polite and said we would be fully refunded and sorry for the inconvenience.

Just got back from Malaysia a couple of weeks ago and Nyona seems like it might be the real deal.
I've only ordered once, but what I did order was delicious. The Nyonya Kari Ayam was well-flavored and moist, and I could tell the coconut rice was cooked with pandan leaf.
Delivery was faster than the estimated time (though I did order after the lunch rush). My first impression is that it's very authentic. I look forward to trying more (especially the Nasi Lemak.)

Hainanese Chicken with Rice was good. nice size and price and simple but good. the indian pancake seemed like a thin piece of paper. I never had one before but expected a naan but it was a lot thinner than expected. Satay was also good but can't really go too wrong on satay. sometimes the street fairs will sell them for $1.

HORRIBLE customer service / delivery.
BEWARE -- they only have ONE delivery guy. It's been over 90 minutes since i ordered, and they say it will still be another 30 minutes at least.
Totally unacceptable. NYONYA -- why are you on Seamless Web with only ONE delivery guy. SHAME SHAME SHAME.

My order took well over an 1hr and was cold and missing a dish. The beef was fatty and greasy. I will never eat here again.
Posted 4 years ago by Angharad J.
Food was very good. Just unfortunate they are sticklers about how much you tip them. They usually have a minimum of 10% required so you will notice it on the tip amount. Other than this pay for "service" override I would only order again if my guests wanted it.

Just good noms.

if you like south east asian food, this is a safe bet. though not the best, but certainly one of the better ones you can get in the city.
the scrambled egg seafood noodles in brown sauce is a typical south east asian dish and they do it very well here. don't get put off by the term 'brown sauce' as some of my westerner friends did, they are nothing like those sauce you think it is.

Hainan chicken is flat-out fantastic, but pass on the roti--it doesn't travel well. Delivery time to the Financial District takes about 90 minutes, though, so factor that in to when you order.
Posted 4 years ago by Nelson W.
Food quality here is great, especially if you love south east asian flavors. Sometimes the delivery takes longer if you order a bit too late during lunch time. However, generally I've been very satisfied with their menu offerings and price. I would certainly recommend the curried beef with rice, it's really tasty and tender.
Posted 4 years ago by Albert L.
Good price, came quickly. The shrimp were overcooked and the broth fishy. But the noodles were tasty and the curry sauce and peanut dipping sauces were great.
Posted 4 years ago by Sarah U.
I received the wrong noodle soup, and the noodles i did receive were totally inedible - they were undercooked and the fish scraps were disgusting. One item didn't show up at all. I couldn't complain because the place had closed for the evening. I've been there for lunch before and the food was okay. Definitely do NOT order late in the evening.

Food is hit or miss. My chicken curry was good, but the buddhist vegetable had a funky sweet red sauce that didn't belong on vegetables.
Posted 4 years ago by Nicole F.
I have eaten at the restaurant before and it was more satisfying than the delivery.
Disappointed with the proportion of the food. There was more rice than meat. And there were more bones than meat.
They did deliver in a timely manner.

Blech! Bad food, bad delivery. Rubber cuttlefish, "famous" fruit salad near inedible. Would not recommend.

Very inconsiderate delivery service. They did not deliver the rice with my meal and REFUSED to deliver. Refused to refund via seamless web, demanded I obtain my credit in person upon my next visit.

Quick, well packed, and delicious lunch! They cleverly separate the noodles from the soup in both orders, so that the noodles wouldn't become water-logged. I love Nyonya. Just as good as delivery as in the restaurant!
Posted 5 years ago by Jennifer W.
The service is horrible. It took more than 2 hours for delivery. I called the restaurant after one and a half hour and was told that the food is on it way and will be there in 10 minutes, but after 30 more minutes my food is still not here.

Food is way over priced for the quality and quantity.

this was the worst experience i have ever had with a delivery in my entire life. the delivery took 1.5 hours and then when we called to check on the delivery twice, they blatantly lied about the time until when the food would come here. when we called back, they hung up on us. rude and unprofessional. it is a shame that seamlessweb forces us to give a tip to such a ridiculously horrible restaurant. for that reason, i will not be ordering from seamless web again. you should immediately remove this restaurant from your webpage.

I pre-paid an extremely generous tip in order to reach the $15 minimum for delivery. I received no call to my cell phone. The receptionist called my office phone, and I promptly went to the lobby where the delivery person proceeded to bitch me out and claimed he had been waiting for 20 minutes, which was news to me. He didn't deserve a penny with that attitude. His rudeness severely undercuts my experience of the food. I've also had bones in my wontons repeatedly.

The delivery guy is RUDE RUDE RUDE. Refuses to come up and actually expected me to go down to get my food. He saw me and left my food on the sidewalk and rode off. The actual sidewalk! Resturant could care less after I complained. Advise: DO NOT tip over the minimum amount. Also, the wait can be long if you order during dinner time. Do not order from here if you are hungry.
